Dear my beloved Students,
As you journeyed through the subject Building and Enhancing New Literacies Across the Curriculum, your mind was opened to the reality that learning is no longer confined to reading and writing alone. You now live in an age where new literacies – digital, media, environmental, financial, and many others – are essential tools in navigating the ever-changing landscape of knowledge. Each subject across the curriculum plays a vital role in forming a holistic learner, equipped not just with facts but with skills that empower us to respond to the demands of life and society. But please think deeply, there is one literacy that stands above all, and that is the literacy of the heart. This is the literacy that draws us closer to our Creator: our literacy to God. This is the Divine Literacy.
All knowledge begins and ends in God. He is the Source of wisdom and understanding. While we strive to master the literacies offered by the world, we must not forget to master the literacy that leads us to righteousness, compassion, and truth. What it the use of technological skill if we cannot discern what is good? What is the value of media fluency if we cannot communicate love, respect, and truth? What power lies in financial literacy if we fail to be generous stewards of the blessings entrusted to us by our Father? All these literacies become meaningful only when they are rooted in our obedience to God and aligned with His will.
In truth, every strand of the curriculum (be it science, mathematics, arts, or social studies) is important. These disciplines develop our intellect, character, and competence. But it is the integration of God’s wisdom into these literacies that breathes life into them. An integrated curriculum becomes transformative when we allow God to be at the center of our learning, when we align our talents not for selfish gain but for service to others, for healing the world, and for fulfilling our purpose as His children.
To be literate in God is to be able to read His presence in every part of our life. It is to hear His whisper in the silence, to see His hand in the beauty of creation, to feel His guidance in our conscience, and to speak His love through our actions. It is this divine literacy that completes all other literacies. Without it, we may succeed in the world but remain empty inside. With it, even our smallest learning becomes sacred.
Let this be a reminder: Our education is a gift. Our skills are entrusted to us for a reason. We are called to be vessels of light in a darkened world, and that can only happen if we allow God to shape our hearts as much as we shape our minds. We do not study just to pass exams, or to earn a living. We study to serve, to lead with integrity, to create beauty, to heal what is broken, and ultimately, to glorify the One who made us.
As you move forward, carry this truth with you: strive to be literate in all areas, but most especially strive to be literate in faith, in hope, and in love. That is God’s language. For in Him, all learning finds its purpose. In Him, all knowledge finds its fullness.
I’m glad to be part of your journey.
God bless you in your future endeavor.
