Understanding Literacy in the 21st Century

Traditionally, literacy was confined to the ability to read and write. However, in the digital era, literacy has expanded to encompass various competencies that enable individuals to navigate, analyze, and communicate in a complex information landscape. These modern literacies are essential for personal, professional, and societal success.

Traditional vs. Modern Literacy

Traditional Literacy

Historically, literacy was defined as the ability to read and write. It primarily focused on basic language skills that allowed individuals to engage with texts, comprehend written material, and express ideas through writing.
