Founders Day: Through The Years
As MLG College of Learning, Inc. in Hilongos, Leyte, Philippines, commemorates its 16th Foundation Day on February 23, 2024, it’s a time to reflect on the institution’s remarkable journey of growth, resilience, and community support. Founded in 1999 by Glenn Go Olo, the school has become a beacon of hope and opportunity for underprivileged youth in Leyte.
Glenn Go Olo’s personal narrative chronicles the inception of MLG College of Learning, Inc. and the challenges he faced as its founder and director. Despite initial opposition and daunting obstacles such as financial constraints and health issues, Glenn’s unwavering determination led him to establish the school with just 23 students. He envisioned an educational institution that went beyond traditional academics, providing a holistic approach to learning that included life experiences, field trips, and exposure to various industries.
Operating the school posed numerous challenges, from bureaucratic hurdles to the difficulty of finding qualified teachers. However, Glenn attributes the school’s growth and success to divine providence, citing instances of unexpected help and miraculous interventions. Generous donations of land and funding from unforeseen sources propelled MLG College of Learning, Inc. forward, enabling it to provide quality education to underprivileged students.
One significant initiative of the school is the International Cooperation for Development Studies (ICDS) scholarship project, offering free tech-voc education to deserving high school graduates. Through innovative strategies like multi-tasking, subsidizing, volunteerism, and persistent fundraising, the school has been able to sustain its operations and provide free education to a significant portion of its student population.
The 16th Foundation Day celebration featured various highlights, including the unveiling of the theme “Through the Years” by Mary Lilibeth O. Yan, DevEdD, the school directress. Exhibits showcasing the school’s past and present activities and memories were presented by Natasha Angelica R. Malinis, RN, offering attendees a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
The event also included an intermission number presented by the talented students and a heartfelt message from alumni representative Ms. Marissa Mondragon. Special awards, recognitions, and a message from Mrs. Natividad G. Olo, the school president, added to the festive atmosphere. Closing remarks by Erlinda A. Lina, EdD, the school principal, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming attendance and support from students and teachers alike.
As MLG College of Learning, Inc. continues its mission of empowering minds and transforming lives, its 16th Foundation Day serves as a testament to the power of perseverance, faith, and community support in achieving educational excellence. With a deep sense of gratitude and appreciation, the institution looks forward to many more years of making a positive impact on the lives of its students and the broader community.
